Duluth, Georgia is located in Gwinnett County approximately 25 miles northeast of Atlanta Georgia. Itīs the second largest city in Gwinnett County with a population of more than 18,000 residents. Duluth has experienced rapid growth in the past several years, but has retained its hometown atmosphere and has thus become known as a "suburban oasis." The town is also home to several beautiful parks and recreational opportunities, a 30-acre railway museum, and summer concerts and outdoor movies shown on the Town Green on Friday nights. The festive spirit of the townspeople was evident with a recent showing of "The Wizard of Oz," where some people dressed up as characters in the movie as entertainment for the children. Even longtime residents consider Duluth an "up-and-coming" area. Spohntown Corp. has completed loft apartments and retail shops adjacent to the Town Green. As Gwinnett's second-largest city, with more than 22,000 residents, Duluth has boundaries that extend to I-85 and the Fulton County line. It's one of Gwinnett's busiest commercial corridors. The town, originally called Howell's Cross Roads, got its current name in the 1870's when the railroad line was completed. It was named for another railroad town then in the news, Duluth, Minn.
