For nearly a century, Dacula was relatively unknown, sometimes changing little even when the rest of the county was growing. But Dacula has come a long way since it was incorporated in 1905 as an agricultural railroad town. It has undergone an evolution from a tiny town that used to ship thousands of bales of cotton each year to become a destination community. As it celebrates its centennial this year residents commemorate the rural past and look to an uptown future. Commercial development has come to the once-rural town, bringing with it a number of new stores. The Shops at Towler Village, a new shopping center, is being constructed. The town soon will also celebrate the opening of the Dacula Library, Maple Creek Park and a new senior center.
